----------- It's the case for combustion. Spun the wheel and have instant flame. Flip the lid and the flame extinguished. The origin of the lighter first appeared in the nineteenth century. At that time, it's more of a conversation piece than anything. The curiosity, that ignited plenty of interest.
The lighters are not rarity anymore but they are still hot commodity. To make lighter cases, a machine uncoils brass from the scroll, putting it into a press.
The press stamps the brass repeatly to shape both the top and the bottom parts of the case.
A worker collects them and puts them on a revolving table. Another worker slides on the hinge to link the top and bottom of the pieces. An electrode welds the hinge to the case. Then a mechanical arm knocks them down to a worker who inspects the welding job.
As the cases move on to the conveyer system, they get a quick buff to prepare them for blanching. The cases are now blanched into a series of washing solutions. Followed by a nickel solution, then a chrome one, is the finish touching of the lighter cases.
It's the time to work on the inner workings. A die shapes pieces of steel to make the inside cases. Mechanic arms then place a tube and a plate into the case. The tube holds the flint stone and the plate (?) the top of the inner case.
A worker arranges a pair of flint wheels so that the teeth are in the proper direction. Grabbers load the flint wheels into a assembly jig.
These cam will eventually add the catch of the ligher lid. A grabber place the cam into the jig besides the flint wheel. The assembly jig now receives a little brass eyelet between the flint wheel and the cam.
The machine slides the inner case over the flint wheel, cam and the eyelet and the (?) device rivets them alltogether.
A machine lower the wick to the eyelet and thread it through. Blades move from the side and snake the wick. This machine slips the pieces of cotton into the inner case.
The cotton was (?) and retains unfilled until the consumer fill later. Steel pilingers (?)down the wick and cotton. Here die punch cuts the piece of felt to size. Automatic arms pick up the felt and (?) into the top of the inner cases. Here, grabbers place a flint spring into the case just over the flint stone. Automatic screw drivers drive the screw home.
A rubber wheel spins the flint and sparks flame. The lighers (?) to check their intensity. After the flint check, technicans install the inter unit into the case. They check the fit, they test the function, looks like to open in the sudden case.
